This tour takes you to Lukomir (1,495m) — the highest inhabited and one of the most picturesque villages in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where time feels like it has slowed down and tradition is still alive.

Along the way, you’ll get a deeper insight into Bosnian history, culture, and ethnology, with stories about the local way of life on the mountains, old customs, and how people have lived here for generations. One of the highlights on the route is a visit to the famous Stećci — mysterious medieval tombstones that are part of the region’s unique heritage.

Once we reach Lukomir, we’ll take a break and enjoy a mountain picnic, surrounded by incredible views and fresh air. From the village, you’ll experience unforgettable panoramas of Visočica Mountain and the breathtaking Rakitnica Canyon — a dramatic natural wonder and one of the deepest canyons in Europe, known for its wild beauty and steep cliffs.

Since the tour takes place in the wide-open Bjelašnica Plateau, the landscape is vast and exposed, meaning there’s not much shade. For the best experience, we recommend avoiding very hot summer days, and also skipping weekends when there can be more traffic on the dirt road.

The good news is that the route includes plenty of natural water sources, perfect for refreshing breaks along the way.

After the hike, you can optionally join us for a traditional lunch at a mountain lodge, where you’ll have the chance to taste authentic Bosnian homemade food in a warm and cozy atmosphere.
